Cavitas pericardiaca

1 Definition

The cavitas pericardiaca is filled with a serous liquid in the space located between the two pericardium walls. It surrounds - with the exception of the outgoing blood vessels - the heart completely and serves to reduce friction during heart activities.

2 Anatomy

The cavitas pericardiaca (sinus pericardii) recesses are:

  • Sinus transversus pericardii
  • Sinus obliquus pericardii
