Corpus: Supraorbital vein
1. Definition
The supraorbital vein is a vein of the facial region that drains venous blood from the forehead, eyebrows and upper eyelids.
2. Anatomy
The supraorbital vein begins in the subcutaneous tissue of the forehead, where it communicates with the frontal ramus of the superficial temporal vein. It runs caudally over the frontalis muscle to meet the frontal vein at the medial orbital rim. It unites with it to form the angular vein.
Before merging with the frontal vein, it takes up a vascular branch that runs through the supraorbital foramen into the orbit. In the foramen, it picks up the diploic frontal vein and anastomoses intraorbitally with the superior ophthalmic vein.
