Corpus: Posterior ulnar recurrent artery
1. Definition
The posterior ulnar recurrent artery is a branch of the ulnar artery.
2. Course
The posterior ulnar recurrent artery is larger than its counterpart, the anterior ulnar recurrent artery. It runs dorsally and medially on the flexor digitorum profundus muscle and ascends behind the medial epicondyle of the humerus. In the section between the medial epicondyle and the olecranon, it lies beneath the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle and ascends between the two heads of this muscle – in close relation to the ulnar nerve. It anastomoses with the superior ulnar collateral artery, the inferior ulnar collateral artery, and the recurrent interosseous artery.
3. Function
The posterior ulnar recurrent artery supplies the surrounding muscles and the elbow joint.
