Corpus: Superior ulnar collateral artery
1. Definition
The superior ulnar collateral artery is a small branch of the brachial artery.
2. Course
The superior ulnar collateral artery arises slightly distally to the midpoint of the upper arm from the brachial artery. Occasionally, it may also originate from the deep brachial artery.
The vessel pierces the medial intermuscular septum and courses distally on the medial head of the triceps brachii muscle. It then, accompanied by the ulnar nerve, enters the space between the medial epicondyle and the olecranon. The artery terminates beneath the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle, where it anastomoses with the posterior ulnar recurrent artery and the inferior ulnar collateral artery.
