Corpus: Deep brachial artery
Definition
The deep brachial artery is a branch of the brachial artery.
Course
The deep brachial artery originates distal to the lower border of the teres major muscle. In its course, the vessel initially moves dorsally through the triceps slit, situated between the long head and the lateral head of the triceps brachii muscle, descending into the depth of the upper arm. It closely follows the radial nerve in the radial sulcus of the humerus.
About halfway along the length of the humerus, the deep brachial artery divides into two terminal branches: the radial collateral artery and the medial collateral artery.
Branches
- Radial collateral artery
- Medial collateral artery
- Nutrient arteries of the humerus
- Deltoid branch
Function
The function of the deep brachial artery is to supply the surrounding muscles with arterial blood. Through its branches, it nourishes the cubital joint arterial network.
