1. Definition
The diaphragma sellae is a duplication of the dura mater that spans the sella turcica.
2. Anatomy
The diaphragma sellae separates the pituitary gland from the basal parts of the brain. It also separates the optic chiasm from the pituitary gland, allowing only the pituitary stalk to pass through the diaphragmatic hiatus. It is attached to the anterior and posterior clinoid processes of the sphenoid bone.
