Corpus: Zygomaticofacial nerve
Synonym: zygomaticofacial ramus
1. Definition
The zygomaticofacial nerve is a sensitive nerve branch of the zygomatic nerve.
2. Course
The zygomaticofacial nerve branches off from the zygomatic nerve in the posterior part of the orbit. It enters the zygomatic bone through the zygomatico-orbital foramen and exits to the exterior of the facial skull through the zygomaticofacial foramen.
Here, it pierces the orbicularis oculi muscle and divides into fine branches in the subcutaneous tissue, supplying the skin over the zygomatic bone. At the edge of its supply area, it communicates with the facial nerve.
