Corpus: Superficial middle cerebral vein

1. Definition
The superficial middle cerebral vein is a superficial vein that runs in the Sylvian fissure and drains the area surrounding the lateral sulcus and the opercula.
2. Anatomy
The superficial middle cerebral vein forms at the posterior end of the sylvian fissure. It accompanies the lateral sulcus to the posterior edge of the minor ala of the sphenoid bone. There it joins the deep middle cerebral vein and flows into the sphenoparietal sinus, occasionally also into the cavernous sinus.
The superior superficial cerebral vein is connected to the superior sagittal sinus via the superior anastomotic vein and to the transverse sinus via the inferior anastomotic vein.
