Corpus: Posterior tibial vein
1. Definition
The posterior tibial vein is a deep vein of the lower leg that is a tributary of the popliteal vein.
2. Anatomy
The posterior tibial vein runs through the malleolar canal and unites with the anterior tibial vein to form the popliteal vein. It collects venous blood from the plantar side of the foot, specifically from the plantar venous arch, and from the back of the lower leg. Like most deep veins, the posterior tibial vein is accompanied by an artery of the same name, the posterior tibial artery.
