Corpus: Anterior tibial vein
1. Definition
The anterior tibial vein is a deep vein of the lower leg and a tributary of the popliteal vein.
2. Anatomy
The anterior tibial vein passes through an oval opening at the upper edge of the interosseous membrane. It merges with the posterior tibial vein to form the popliteal vein and collects venous blood from the anterior part of the lower leg.
Like most deep veins, the anterior tibial vein is accompanied by an artery of the same name, the anterior tibial artery.
