Corpus: Oblique popliteal ligament
Synonym: Bourgery's ligament
1. Definition
The oblique popliteal ligament is a flat, broad ligament located in the area of the popliteal fossa.
2. Anatomy
The oblique popliteal ligament extends from the posterior edge of the tibial plateau laterally and proximally to the upper edge of the intercondylar fossa to the posterior surface of the femur. During its course, it incorporates a lateral split of the tendon of the semimembranosus muscle. The popliteal artery runs in proximity to the ligament.
The oblique popliteal ligament forms the base of the popliteal fossa and reinforces the posterior aspect of the joint capsule of the knee joint.
