Corpus: Inferior rectal veins
1. Definition
The inferior rectal veins are veins located in the area of the rectum.
2. Anatomy
The inferior rectal veins drain blood from the rectal venous plexus, where they form anastomoses with the middle rectal veins and the superior rectal vein.
These veins flow into the internal pudendal vein, which drains into the internal iliac vein. Therefore, the blood from the inferior rectal veins bypasses the portal vein system and returns to the heart via the systemic circulation.
