Corpus: Inferior pancreatic artery
1. Definition
The inferior pancreatic artery is a blood vessel that supplies the pancreas. It is a continuation of the dorsal pancreatic artery, which arises from the splenic artery. In some cases, the inferior pancreatic artery may be rudimentary or completely absent.
2. Course
The inferior pancreatic artery runs along the lower edge of the pancreas, specifically on its dorsal side, toward the tail of the pancreas or the splenic hilum. Along its course, it forms multiple anastomoses with the splenic artery and its branches, such as the greater pancreatic artery, the caudal pancreatic artery, and the superior pancreaticoduodenal artery.
