Corpus: Dorsal pancreatic artery
1. Definition
The dorsal pancreatic artery is a vascular branch that primarily arises from the splenic artery.
2. Course
In about 40 % of individuals, it originates from the beginning of the splenic artery, although it can also arise from the common hepatic artery or the coeliac trunk. The dorsal pancreatic artery divides into three branches, supplying the posterior aspect of the pancreas. Its continuation forms the inferior pancreatic artery, which further supports the blood supply to the pancreas.
