1. Definition
The common hepatic artery is a short arterial branch that originates from the celiac trunk.
2. Course
The common hepatic artery is the largest branch of the celiac trunk. It travels anteriorly and to the right towards the upper edge of the superior part of the duodenum, forming the lower boundary of the epiploic foramen. It then crosses the portal vein and ascends between the layers of the lesser omentum towards the hepatic portal, where it continues as the proper hepatic artery.
