Corpus: Brachial vein
Definition
The brachial vein is a deep vein in the upper arm that draws venous blood from the ulnar vein and the radial vein. It flows into the axillary vein.
Anatomy
The brachial vein begins in the crook of the elbow from the confluence of the ulnar vein and the radial vein and ends in the armpit. The transition to the axillary vein is blurred and not clearly defined anatomically. The course of the vein closely follows the brachial artery. The median nerve also runs close to it. The brachial vein is often double.
Function
Together with the basilic vein and the cephalic vein, the brachial vein transports venous blood from the hand, forearm and upper arm to the central body veins.
