Definition

The superficial temporal vein is a superficial vein of the head. It drains the anterior part of the scalp and the lateral facial region.

Anatomy

The superficial temporal vein accompanies the superficial temporal artery. It unites with the maxillary vein or the drainage of the pterygoid venous plexus to form the retromandibular vein. Additionally, it has an inflow pathway to the superior sagittal sinus via the parietal emissary vein.
