Corpus: Maxillary vein
1. Definition
The maxillary vein is a short vein that connects the pterygoid venous plexus to the retromandibular vein.
2. Anatomy
The maxillary vein is formed by the merging of veins from the pterygoid venous plexus and runs alongside the maxillary artery. It travels dorsally between the sphenomandibular ligament and the neck of the mandible (collum mandibulae), where it joins the superficial temporal vein.
