Definition

The adductor longus muscle is a skeletal muscle located on the inside of the thigh. It belongs to the adductor muscles of the thigh.

Progression

Origin

The adductor longus muscle originates at the pubic bone, specifically between the pubic crest and the pubic symphysis.

Attachment

The adductor longus muscle attaches to the middle third of the femur along the linea aspera after an oblique course. Some fiber bundles of the muscle extend into the vastoadductor membrane, which separates the adductors from the extensor group.

Innervation

The adductor longus muscle is innervated by the anterior branch of the obturator nerve.

Function

The primary function of the adductor longus muscle is to adduct the thigh. It also assists in external rotation and flexion of the thigh. The fibers that join the vastoadductor membrane help in the internal rotation of the thigh.
