Corpus: Urethral artery
1. Definition
The urethral artery is a small branch of the internal pudendal artery.
2. Anatomy
The urethral artery arises just distal to the artery of the urethral bulb from the internal pudendal artery. It runs anteriorly and medially, piercing the inferior fascia of the urogenital diaphragm. In the superficial perineal space, it enters the corpus spongiosum of the urethra and continues forward toward the glans penis.
3. Function
The urethral artery supplies arterial blood to the corpus spongiosum and the urethra.
