Corpus: Supratrochlear artery
1. Definition
The supratrochlear artery is an orbital vascular branch of the ophthalmic artery.
2. Anatomy
The supratrochlear artery is one of the three terminal branches of the ophthalmic artery. It exits the orbit through the frontal notch (incisura frontalis) in the upper medial quadrant, alongside the supratrochlear vein. Just below this point, the supratrochlear nerve pierces the orbital septum.
The artery then ascends to the forehead, where it supplies the skin of the frontal region, the facial muscles, and the periosteum. The supratrochlear artery forms anastomoses with the supraorbital artery and with the corresponding artery on the opposite side.
