1. Definition
The superior rectal plexus is a nerve plexus located near the rectum, specifically around the superior rectal artery. It is an extension of the inferior mesenteric plexus and communicates with the inferior hypogastric plexus.
2. Function
The superior rectal plexus controls the secretory and motor functions of the upper rectal region through visceromotor fibres.
