Corpus: Superior lateral genicular artery
1. Definition
The superior lateral artery is a branch of the popliteal artery that supplies the knee.
2. Course
The superior lateral artery passes below the tendon of the biceps femoris muscle on the lateral condyle of the femur. It is divided into a superficial branch and a deep branch.
The superficial branch supplies the vastus lateralis muscle and anastomoses with the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery and the inferior lateral artery in the genicular anastomosis.
The deep branch supplies the lower part of the femur and the upper parts of the knee joint. It anastomoses with the descending genus artery.
