1. Definition
The posterior ethmoidal artery is a branch of the ophthalmic artery that runs through the posterior ethmoidal foramen from theorbit back into the cranial cavity.

2. Course
The posterior ethmoidal artery is smaller than the anterior ethmoidal artery. It supplies the posterior ethmoid cells and gives off a ramus meningealis to the dura mater. Its rami nasales descend through the lamina cribrosa of the ethmoid bone into the nasal cavity, where they supply parts of the nasal mucosa and anastomose with branches of the sphenopalatine artery.
