Corpus: Popliteal lymph nodes
1. Definition
The popliteal lymph nodes are a collection of lymph nodes in the popliteal fossa (popliteal fossa).
2. Anatomy
There are two groups of popliteal lymph nodes in humans:
2.1. Nodi lymphatici poplitei superficiales
The superficial popliteal lymph nodes are located at the confluence of the lesser saphenous vein. They receive lymph from the calf and the lateral side of the foot.
2.2. Nodi lymphatici poplitei profundi
The deep popliteal lymph nodes are located close to the popliteal vein below the fascia embedded in fatty tissue. Their tributary area is the dorsal side of the lower leg.
