Corpus: Parotid lymph nodes
1. Definition
The parotid lymph nodes are lymph nodes found in the area of the parotid gland.
2. Anatomy
The parotid lymph nodes are divided into a superficial and a deep group:
- Superficial parotid lymph nodes
- Deep parotid lymph nodes
The superficial parotid lymph nodes are located on the parotid gland in front of the auricle. They drain the nasal root, the eyelids, the anterior wall of the external acoustic meatus, the tympanic cavity and the frontotemporal parts of the face. They channel the lymph to the upper level of the deep cervical lymph nodes.
The deep parotid lymph nodes are located below the parotid gland. They drain the nasopharynx and the posterior part of the nasal cavity. They also channel the lymph to the upper level of the deep cervical lymph nodes.
