Corpus: Medial pectoral nerve
1. Definition
The medial pectoral nerve is supplied by the spinal cord segments C8 to T1 and originates from the inferior trunk or the medial cord of the brachial plexus.
2. Course
The medial pectoral nerve typically passes through the clavipectoral fascia and the pectoralis minor muscle. Within the pectoralis minor, it releases individual nerve fibres for innervation. It then divides into further muscular branches in the connective tissue between the pectoralis minor and major muscles. These branches run medially and caudally to the sternocostal part of the pectoralis major muscle, supplying the surrounding musculature.
3. Function
The medial pectoral nerve, along with the lateral pectoral nerve, provides motor innervation to both the pectoralis minor and pectoralis major muscles.
