Corpus: Lacrimal vein
1. Definition
The lacrimal vein is a vein that accompanies the lacrimal artery and drains venous blood from the lacrimal gland.
2. Anatomy
The lacrimal vein originates from 2 to 3 smaller branches from the lacrimal gland. It runs alongside the lacrimal artery and lacrimal nerve along the upper edge of the lateral rectus muscle. The lacrimal vein empties into the superior ophthalmic vein at the lateral edge of the superior rectus muscle. Along its course, it can receive additional veins, such as the superolateral vortex vein and smaller muscle branches.
