1. Definition
The inferior ophthalmic vein is a vein in the area of the orbit.
2. Course
The bilateral inferior ophthalmic vein originates from a fine network of veins in the anterior orbital floor. It runs dorsally and splits into two branches. One branch passes through the inferior orbital fissure and drains into the pterygoid venous plexus, while the other branch drains into the superior ophthalmic vein or accompanies it through the superior orbital fissure, ending in the cavernous sinus.

4. Function
