Corpus: Inferior medial genicular artery
1. Definition
The inferior medial vehicular artery is a branch of the popliteal artery that supplies the knee.
2. Course
The inferior medial vehicular artery descends caudally along the popliteus muscle and gives off some muscular rami to it. It then runs below the tibial collateral ligament around the medial condyle of the tibia. At its anterior edge, it finally ascends cranially to the medial side and the front of the knee joint. It supplies the proximal part of the tibia and part of the knee joint.
The terminal branches of the inferior medial genicular artery anastomose with the superior medial genicular artery and the inferior lateral genicular artery and feed the collateral network of the knee joint.
