Corpus: Hepatic plexus
1. Definition
The hepatic plexus is an autonomic nerve plexus that innervates the liver and gallbladder.
2. Anatomy
The hepatic plexus receives its sympathetic fibres primarily from the greater and lesser splanchnic nerves, which are relayed in the celiac ganglion. Parasympathetic fibres mainly come from the anterior vagal trunk, which originates from the left vagus nerve, and reach the hepatic plexus directly via hepatic branches. Additionally, fibres from the posterior vagal trunk also contribute to the hepatic plexus through the celiac plexus.[1]
