Corpus: Floor of the mouth
1. Definition
The floor of the mouth is a multilayered soft tissue area between the body of the lower jaw (mandible) and the hyoid bone, which forms the caudal border of the oral cavity.
2. Anatomy
The floor of the mouth stretches out between the arched body of mandible. It is formed by the muscles of the floor of the mouth, in particular the right and left mylohyoid muscles. Both muscles attach to the lower jaw and unite via the connective tissue mylohyoid raphe to form a continuous muscle plate.
The floor of the mouth is lined with oral mucosa towards the oral cavity.
