Corpus: External iliac artery
1. Definition
The external iliac artery is a large artery in the pelvic region. It arises together with the internal iliac artery from the common iliac artery. At its origin, it is crossed by the ureter.
2. Course
The external iliac artery runs anteriorly and inferolaterally along the greater psoas muscle to the inguinal ligament, under which it enters the lacuna vasorum, where it becomes the femoral artery. Before this, it gives off the circumflex iliac artery laterally and the inferior epigastric artery medially.
3. Branches
- Deep circumflex iliac artery
- Inferior epigastric artery
- Femoral artery
