Corpus: Dorsal lingual branches of lingual artery
1. Definition
The dorsal lingual branches of the lingual artery are branches of the lingual artery that supply the base of the tongue with arterial blood.
2. Course
The dorsal lingual branches arise from the lingual artery below the hyoglossus muscle and ascend to the posterior part of the dorsum of the tongue. There, they supply the mucosa of the root of the tongue, the epiglottis, the soft palate, and the palatine tonsil. The dorsal lingual branches anastomose with the vessels of the opposite side.
