Corpus: Aorticorenal ganglia
1. Definition
The aorticorenal ganglia are small clusters of ganglion cells located at the origin of the renal arteries. They are part of the solar plexus and the prevertebral ganglia, functioning as caudal extensions of the celiac ganglia.
2. Background
The aorticorenal ganglia receive presynaptic sympathetic fibres from the greater and lesser splanchnic nerves. In the ganglia, these fibres connect to postsynaptic neurons, which then form the renal plexus. This plexus follows the renal artery into the kidney and extends to the proximal ureter.
