Corpus: Anterior talofibular ligament
1. Definition
The anterior talofibular ligament is a short ligament that is part of the ligamentous apparatus of the talocrural joint.
2. Anatomy
The anterior talofibular ligament connects the anterior edge of the lateral malleolus of the fibula to the talus, attaching in front of the lateral joint facet. Its fibers run anteriorly and medially.
3. Clinic
As part of the lateral ligamentous apparatus, the anterior talofibular ligament is one of the most frequently injured ligaments of the ankle joint ("lateral ligament rupture"). To check for a ligament rupture, the talus advancement is tested.
