Corpus: Anterior inferior cerebellar artery
1. Definition
The anterior inferior cerebellar artery is a paired branch of the basilar artery and one of the three most important vessels supplying the cerebellum.
2. Anatomy
The anterior inferior cerebellar artery runs through the cerebellopontine angle. It supplies the medulla oblongata, the pons, the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle and the anterior parts of the cerebellar hemispheres with arterial blood. In the internal acoustic pore, it can supply the labyrinthine artery.
3. Clinic
Occlusion of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery leads to the so-called AICA stroke.
