Definition

The right gastroepiploic artery is a branch of the gastroduodenal artery that supplies the stomach and the greater omentum with arterial blood.

Course

This artery originates from the gastroduodenal artery, which itself branches from the common hepatic artery or directly from the celiac trunk. The right gastroepiploic artery runs caudally along the greater curvature of the stomach and forms an anastomosis with the left gastroepiploic artery. During its course, it lies within the gastrocolic ligament, situated between the two layers of the greater omentum.

Branches

  • Gastric branches: Supply the stomach wall
  • Omental branches: Supply the greater omentum
