Definition

The long ciliary nerves are branches of the nasociliary nerve with sensory and sympathetic fiber qualities.

Anatomy

The long ciliary nerves enter the eyeball and supply the middle ocular membrane (including the choroid, ciliary body, and iris), the cornea, and the conjunctiva. Additionally, they carry sympathetic fibers from the superior cervical ganglion to the dilator pupillae muscle. These fibers do not synapse in the ciliary ganglion.
