Definition

The pectineus muscle is part of the thigh adductor muscles, located on the medial side of the thigh.

Progression

Origin

The muscle originates from the iliopubic eminence along the pubic ridge of the pubic bone to the pubic tubercle.

Attachment

The pectineus muscle inserts at the pectineal line and the linea aspera of the femur.

Innervation

The pectineus muscle receives dual innervation: it is innervated by the obturator nerve and the femoral nerve (segments L2-L4).

Function

In the hip joint, the pectineus muscle facilitates adduction, external rotation, and slight flexion. It also helps stabilize the pelvis in the frontal and sagittal planes.
