Corpus: Superior vesical artery
1. Definition
The superior vesical artery is a branch of the patent part of the umbilical artery, which itself originates from the internal iliac artery. It supplies blood to the upper part of the urinary bladder.
2. Course
The superior vesical artery arises from the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. It divides into several small branches that supply the upper portion of the bladder wall and the lower parts of the ureter. The artery is located within the transverse vesical fold. In males, one of its branches, the artery of the ductus deferens, follows the spermatic duct towards the testicles, where it forms an anastomosis with the testicular artery.
