Corpus: Superior posterior pancreaticoduodenal vein
1. Definition
The superior posterior pancreaticoduodenal vein is a venous drainage vessel of the pancreas. It collects blood from the upper portion of the pancreatic head and drains directly into the posterior part of the portal vein.
2. Clinic
In some cases, the superior posterior pancreaticoduodenal vein may drain into the anterior aspect of the portal vein. This anatomical variation can create the appearance of the common hepatic duct on sagittal ultrasound images, potentially leading to diagnostic confusion.[1]
