Corpus: Superior cluneal nerves
1. Definition
The superior cluneal nerves are cutaneous nerves that run as dorsal branches of the spinal cord segments L1-L3 via the iliac crest to the upper part of the gluteal region.
They do not originate from the lumbar plexus, as is often assumed, as the nerves are dorsal branches of the spinal nerves, which are not involved in the formation of the plexus.
