Corpus: Quadrangular membrane
1. Definition
The quadrangular membrane refers to the weaker part of the fibro-elastic membrane of the larynx, located beneath the mucosa of the vestibule of the larynx.
2. Anatomy
The quadrangular membrane extends bilaterally in the submucosa from the lateral aspect of the epiglottis to the arytenoid cartilages. It also encompasses the cuneiform cartilages.
The lower edge of the quadrangular membrane forms the vestibular fold (vestibular plica), while the upper edge forms the aryepiglottic fold (aryepiglottic plica).
