Corpus: Psoas minor muscle
1. Definition
The psoas minor muscle is a skeletal muscle that is part of the inner hip musculature. It is inconsistently developed in humans, being present in about 50 % of individuals. Some authors consider the psoas minor muscle to be part of the iliopsoas muscle.
2. Course
The psoas minor muscle originates from the 12th thoracic vertebra and the 1st lumbar vertebra. It extends with a long tendon, inserting into the fascia of the psoas major muscle, particularly into the iliopectineal arch.
3. Innervation
The psoas minor muscle is innervated by the anterior branches of the lumbar nerves I-III.
4. Function
The psoas minor muscle has limited functional significance when acting alone. If present, it may provide some support to the iliopsoas muscle.
