Corpus: Prostatic venous plexus
after the Italian anatomist Giovanni Domenico Santorini (1681-1737)
Synonym: Santorini plexus
1. Definition
The prostatic venous plexus is a network of veins surrounding the prostate gland. It drains into the internal iliac vein.
2. Anatomy
The prostatic venous plexus communicates with the vesical venous plexus, and together they are often referred to as the vesicoprostatic venous plexus due to their close anatomical connection. The primary inflow to the prostatic venous plexus comes from the deep dorsal vein of the penis.
