Corpus: Posterior meniscofemoral ligament
Synonym: Wrisberg's ligament
1. Definition
The posterior meniscofemoral ligament is a fiber bundle of the knee joint that extends from the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus to the medial femoral condyle, where it attaches dorsal to the posterior cruciate ligament. This ligament is present in approximately two-thirds of people.
2. Function
The posterior meniscofemoral ligament acts as a synergistic structure to the posterior cruciate ligament, contributing to the stabilization of the knee joint in the sagittal plane. It also tenses during knee joint extension.
