Corpus: Posterior medial choroidal branches
1. Definition
The posterior medial choroidal branches are vascular branches of the posterior cerebral artery that arise from the postcommissural segment (P2). Only one vascular branch may be present.
2. Anatomy
The posterior medial choroidal branches run below the splenium of the corpus callosum, then over the roof of the third cerebral ventricle to the choroid plexus. Along their path, they send fine supply branches to the tegmentum, the posterior thalamus, and the pineal gland. At the foramen of Monro, they anastomose with the lateral posterior choroidal branches.
3. Clinic
Occlusion of the posterior medial choroidal branches leads to posterior thalamic infarction.
