Corpus: Posterior interosseus artery
Definition
The posterior interosseous artery is a branch of the common interosseous artery from the ulnar artery.
Anatomy
The posterior interosseous artery runs - partly together with the posterior interosseous nerve - on the dorsal side of the interosseous membrane of the forearm along the dorsal interosseous space adjacent to the abductor pollicis longus muscle. It gives off the recurrent interosseous artery, which can also originate directly from the common interosseous artery. The artery supplies the adjacent muscles of the dorsal forearm and anastomoses distally with its terminal branches with the arterial network of the back of the hand (dorsal carpal network).
