Corpus: Posterior interosseous artery
1. Definition
The posterior interosseous artery is a branch of the common interosseous artery, which originates from the ulnar artery.
2. Anatomy
The posterior interosseous artery travels along the dorsal side of the interosseous membrane in the forearm, partially alongside the posterior interosseous nerve. It runs along the path of the abductor pollicis longus muscle. This artery gives rise to the recurrent interosseous artery, which may also branch directly from the common interosseous artery.
The posterior interosseous artery supplies the nearby muscles of the dorsal forearm and connects distally with the vascular network on the back of the hand (dorsal carpal arch) through its terminal branches.
